This is the Madaba mosaic map which is interesting because it gives a visualization of Hellenistic Jerusalem. It is also interesting because if one looks at the archaeological remains the map is positioned so that the east is the top of the map, which is how ancient maps were oriented rather than the northern oriented maps we have today.

This map represents the study of how a child's first words develop. Deb Roy collected data by installing cameras within his home to document how his child's first word developed. The frequency of words used is transposed on to a template of the home. The child's first word was "water" which is visually represented as a frequently used word as it is the highest peak within the graphic model of his home.

This map documents the path that the Mississippi River has taken according to it's geological record. Thus the map represents movement not only in space but in time as well.
